Panerai has spent years working through case materials, from bronze and titanium to Fibratech and Carbotech, and the newest Luminor Marina is a study in the last of those. The PAM01707 keeps the shape collectors know, the cushion case, the crown-protecting bridge and the 44mm proportions, and swaps the metal for Carbotech, the brand's carbon composite. Monochrome covered the release on 3 August 2026. It is a familiar watch in an unfamiliar skin, and about a third lighter than the steel version.
The case is the point
Carbotech is made by compressing thin layers of carbon fibre with PEEK, a high-performance polymer, then cutting the case from the resulting block. Because the layers sit at slightly different angles, no two cases share the same marbled pattern across the matte black surface. The 44mm case, the bezel and the crown-protecting bridge are all Carbotech; the screw-down caseback and the trapezoidal buckle are DLC-coated titanium. Water resistance is 300 metres, and the whole watch weighs around 100 grams, part of the reason people buy the material in the first place.
A dial that looks back
The dial is matte black and built the way Panerai dials have long been built, as a sandwich. A lower plate filled with Super-LumiNova sits under an upper plate cut with the numerals and markers, so the light comes from below the surface rather than off it. The lume here is a warm beige that reads as aged, and it glows green in the dark. There is no date, which keeps the layout clean and closer to the early military references, and the small seconds sit at 9 o'clock, a detail that once let a diver confirm at a glance that the watch was still running.
P.9010, three days
Behind the closed caseback is the automatic P.9010, made at Richemont's ValFleurier workshops. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, stores three days of power across twin barrels, and carries Panerai's useful travel trick: an hour hand that can be jumped forward or back in one-hour steps without stopping the watch or disturbing the minutes. It is the same movement found across much of the Luminor line, which is to say it is proven rather than new, and that is fine for a watch whose story is the case.
Price and straps
The PAM01707 is not a limited edition. It arrives on a brown vintage-style calf strap with beige stitching, with a black rubber strap in the box, and it is priced at EUR 15,200, available from August 2026. Carbotech is not new to Panerai, but putting it under the plain, military-flavoured Luminor Marina rather than a busier reference is the quieter choice, and it suits the watch.
