About Aikakone

The permanent home for your watch's story

We started Aikakone because watches are more than machines. They're stories. A watch accumulates history through every service, every owner, every moment on a wrist. Yet most of that history gets lost.

The problem

A watch changes hands and its paperwork stays in a drawer. A service record gets filed away or scanned and forgotten. A watch with immaculate provenance sits in the pre-owned market alongside questionable ones because there's no way to prove what actually happened to it.

The watch community is built on trust, but trust is hard to establish when the documentation of a watch's life can disappear between owners. Collectors, dealers, and enthusiasts all face the same question: how do you prove a watch's story is real?

Our approach

Aikakone (Finnish for "time machine") is a free, brand-agnostic registry where every watch builds a verifiable timeline. When you add a watch, you create a permanent digital home for its story. Service records, ownership history, photographs, maintenance notes: everything that matters stays in one place and moves with the watch.

We use AI to help you document quickly and accurately. No friction, no gatekeeping, no paywalls. Just a straightforward way to preserve what makes your watch valuable: its truth.

What we do

Register and document

Add any watch to your personal registry. Upload photos, service records, purchase documents, and anything else that tells the story.

Serial dating

Our AI estimates your watch's production year from its serial number. Useful for verifying age claims and understanding provenance.

Market valuation

See how your watch sits in the current market. Real data from real sales, updated regularly. No guesswork.

Share when you choose

Generate a shareable profile for any watch in your collection. Useful for insurance, resale, or simply sharing with someone who asks.

What we believe

Every watch has a story worth preserving

Whether it's a sports watch, a dress watch, or something with significant horological merit, a watch's history matters. Not just to collectors, but to anyone who cares enough to ask "where did this come from?"

Documentation should be free and open

The watch market shouldn't require a paywall to verify the basics. Free access to registries strengthens the entire community. We're building infrastructure that everyone can use.

Trust is built through transparency

When you own a watch's registry entry, you control the information. You decide what to share, what to keep private, and who has access. That transparency is what builds real trust in the market.

The owner controls the record

Your watch's story should belong to you. If you decide to transfer ownership, the record transfers with it. You maintain authority over your watch's documented history.

Who we are

Aikakone is being built in the Netherlands by watch collectors who got tired of losing paperwork. We're a small, early-stage team with a clear problem to solve: making it simple and free to give every watch the permanent home it deserves.
