Hamilton has used the Watches and Wonders 2026 window to add a 36mm reference to the Khaki Field Mechanical line and release a 1,776-piece America 250 limited edition built around the same case. The smaller diameter is the headline. Hamilton's existing Khaki Field Mechanical at 38mm has been the brand's best-selling mechanical reference for years. The 36mm shrinks the case to the proportions of the original 1960s military issue without changing the movement or the price band.
The 36mm case
Monochrome's first look sets out the specs. The case is 36mm wide, 10.2mm thick, with 18mm lug width. The finish is matte bead-blasted stainless steel, with a fixed bidirectional crown and a screw-in caseback. The crystal is acrylic, box-shaped, with hard coating and an anti-fingerprint treatment plus a dust cover.
The dial is matte black with crisp white markings, the military 24-hour inner track Hamilton has carried since the 1969 GG-W-113 reference, the cathedral-style hour and minute hands, and a small white seconds counter at 6 o'clock. Water resistance is 100 metres. Fixed spring bars confirm the watch is built for one strap at a time, not for casual swaps.
H-50 movement
The movement is Hamilton's H-50, a manual-wind calibre based on the ETA C07.701 architecture with a Hamilton-spec balance and a longer power reserve than the base. Running at 21,600 vph, it stores 80 hours of reserve and is regulated to within standard ETA tolerances. There is no chronometer certification. Hamilton has resisted that on the Khaki Field line on the argument that the price band would not absorb COSC fees.
Two references
The standard reference is the Khaki Field Mechanical 36mm (H69399930), priced at EUR 675 according to Monochrome and GBP 595 in the UK. The watch comes on a nylon strap.
The limited edition is the Khaki Field Mechanical 36mm "America 250" (H89399930). Teddy Baldassarre's review confirms the limited reference is built to mark 250 years of American independence, runs 1,776 numbered pieces (the founding year), and is priced at USD 725. The case is identical. The dial adds an "America 250" inscription at 6 o'clock above the seconds counter. The packaging includes two straps, an olive-green nylon and a brown calf leather, plus a green rip-stop nylon watch roll, a flat zip case Hamilton commissioned for the release.
Where it lands
The Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm has been Hamilton's most accessible Swiss-made manual reference since the 2018 redesign. The 36mm sits in the same price band, occupies the same shelf, and answers the steady criticism that the 38mm wears closer to 40 because of the lug-to-lug. The new case is 45mm lug-to-lug, the same as the original GG-W-113 issued during the Vietnam war.
Fratello's introducing piece calls the move the natural step-down after Hamilton spent 2024 and 2025 fielding requests for a smaller version through its retailer network. The America 250 limited edition gives the brand a higher-margin variant that does not require tooling changes. The numbered-1,776 cap is a Hamilton convention going back to the 2026 Bicentennial collection and lands in a year when the brand will sell most of these pieces in its US market.
Why it matters
Hamilton at 675 euros is a different conversation than the rest of this year's Watches and Wonders novelties. The Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Lumen released earlier in the week from the same fair is in another tax bracket. The Khaki Field Mechanical 36mm is the entry-level mechanical the trade has been asking for, the watch a buyer can wear daily without anxiety, and the format the brand's own heritage actually maps to.
aBlogtoWatch coverage of the wider Hamilton novelties at the fair flagged the 36mm as the most consequential of the brand's 2026 line, ahead of the larger Khaki Field Murph anniversary edition and the dual-crown Khaki Field King chronograph announced the same week.
